Inga Jones writes thrillers and suspense. She loves exploring family dynamics and long buried secrets. When not writing, she can be found crafting or spending time with her family.
To Make Him Disappear is a twisty, darkly humorous thriller perfect for fans of Kate Alice Marshall’s and Stacy Willingham’s storytelling style. When a woman suspects her daughter’s new fiancé is a con man, she must stay in a B&B themed after a murder to uncover his past, but while she’s there, her own past comes calling.
I had the pleasure of reading an early copy of this twisty debut, and I’m so thankful to the author for sharing it with me. Publishing May 29th, you can now preorder on Amazon! She’s also on Substack where she has published a serialized novella, To Make Her Come Back, where you can catch up with the characters in the next installment of the series.
This is a fun popcorn thriller, with an interesting cast of characters, and unexpected twists. I really enjoyed following Audrey, an older protagonist who doesn’t fit the typical mold, as she conducts a missing persons investigation to prove her theories about her daughter Carrie’s new fiancé. Her Gen Z sidekick, Uyanga, is my favorite, and I loved what she brought to the partnership. Her quirky knowledge and the skill set for the investigation felt authentic and, at times, funny. How easily she connected with people in a way Audrey had challenges with made them the perfect pair. The story gripped me from the beginning, the pace was steady, and the author’s voice was compelling. I loved how differently I felt toward both Audrey and Derek by the end, pleasantly surprised at the twists and reveals. Congrats to the author for an entertaining debut!
Synopsis:
How far will she go to protect her daughter?
The only thing beyond Audrey Levy’s iron grip on life is her daughter’s choice of men. When her daughter, Carrie, gets engaged to Derek, Audrey sees a threat. She has to get rid of him before he gets his hands on her naive daughter’s trust fund.
Audrey breaks into Derek’s home and finds a clue linking him to a teen girl, murdered fifteen years earlier. To investigate further, she hires Uyanga Batbayar, a young private detective. Together, they travel to small-town Pennsylvania and stay at the site of the teen girl’s murder. Now, a Bed and Breakfast themed after the crime.
Soon, the twisted game takes a darker turn.
If Audrey and Uyanga don’t outsmart the killer, they might become the next horror story in the macabre tour of the B&B.
